BLUE CHEESE WINE PAIRINGS
Blue cheese is a very flavourful cheese with lots of salty fat yummy-ness. To get a wine to match this you need one that has lots of its'
own flavour with an off dry body style(medium or medium dry sweetness) or one with a sweet body style.
A wine's notes (flavours) can add to or take away from the pairing.
We found 6 affordable great tasting wines that paired very well; 3 whites and 3 reds. Some have a medium or medium
dry body while others have a sweet body style, and another
had a vibrant exotic note that also paired nicely with the blue cheese.
Here's our selections for Blue Cheese Wine Pairing (not in any particular order).
Baume Rheingau Riesling (Germany) - Rieslings are noteworthy for their off dry styles that pair nicely with lots of cuisine including hot n spicy
Asian. This wine we chose has notes of Honey, Citrus Fruit, and Orchard Fruit. With a medium dry body and its' honey note (1st note, so
good honey flavour), this makes a very good match for the blue cheese.
And, drink it with Sushi; like a
Dynamite Roll.
Hardys Gewurz/Riesling Blend(Australia) - This blended wine has notes of Exotic Fruit, Floral and Spice. This wine has a medium dry sweetness, and flavourful
notes that make it an excellent pairing for our blue cheese. And, try this wine with Asian spicy and
Mild Curry dishes.
Two Oceans Moscato (Africa) - A sweet bodied wine with notes of Caramel, Grape, and Lychee. This sweet wine pairs well with blue cheese and also
fresh fruit like
Sliced Fresh Peaches.
Copper Moon Merlot (Canada) - This wine's sweet spice together with Black Cherry and Plum notes make for a very tasty wine.
Pairs nicely with blue cheese; and great with
Macaroni and Cheese made with mild or medium cheddar cheese.
Dancing Bull Zinfandel (USA) - This wine expresses a jammy Cherry note together with Spice and Vanilla for a very enjoyable taste, and
a great match for blue cheese. Try it also with a
Steak Deli Sandwich .
Yellow Tail Sweet Red Roo (Australia) - A sweet styled wine with notes of Chocolate, Jammy, Vanilla. This wine pairs with all things sweet and fatty. An excellent
pairing for blue cheese and also delicious with a home made
Blue Cheese Burger .
