Wine Is Good For You
Wine contains antioxidants; and red wine is better than white because the grapes ferment better. Research has shown that these antioxidants can increase the levels of good cholesterol.
Polyphenols are the antioxidants in wine that protect the blood vessels in your heart.
These polyphenols are in the skins of red grapes.
So drinking a glass of wine per day is considered heart healthy.
Drinking red and purple grape juices may also provide the same antioxidants.
Additionally, all types of alcohol can be good for you; be it spirits, beer, or wine. Consumed in moderation; alcohol can:
"Raise HDL cholesterol (the "good" cholesterol),
Reduces the formation of blood clots,
Helps prevent artery damage caused by high levels of LDL cholesterol (the "bad" cholesterol),
May improve the function of the layer of cells that line your blood vessels(1)."
Moderate drinking is limited to 1 drink per day for women, and 2 for men to age 65.
For wine that is 5 ounces; spirits 1.5 ounce, and beer 12 ounces.
