Grenache Wines
Grenache grape vineyards are mostly planted in France and Spain with some vineyards in Australia and USA. It is the 3rd most planted grape variety in Spain. In USA, there are some vineyards in the hot Joaquin Valley which is quite suitable for this type of grape.Spain has about 200,000 acres, and France has 230,000 acres. Grenache is used in single varietal wine, but it is mostly used in blend red wines. Its' fruitiness, and low tannins make it an ideal blending grape, especially for blends that don't require additionial tannins but need the added fruitiness of Grenache.
France has Grenache vineyards in the Roussillon region.
Wine Types
Grenache is a late to ripen grape. Grenache has good sugar content and low tannins. Most Grenache is not recommended for cellaring(aging). In Spain, Grenache is known as Granacha.Grenache is used in many Jug wines(blends) in the USA. In Cotes Du Rhone, France, it is blended with Syrah and Mourvedre, to make a Red Blend Wine.
In Spain, it is a blend in many Tempranillo wines, and also in the Rosadas of Rioja. Grenache is also used in Fortified wines in Roussillon(France), and Australia.

Like most red wines, Grenache should be served at 62 - 68 degrees F.And, to know how fridge cold temperature can affect your Grenache wine taste(or any red wine), taste the wine right from the fridge, then let it warm to room temperature a tad. Once the wine has warmed a bit, taste it again, and you'll know that it tastes better when served close to room temperature.
